ShareX Setup Guide

Use ShareX with IMGBS to screenshot, upload, and get a shareable link in one keystroke. Free, fast, and automatic.

Step 1 — Get your API key

You need an IMGBS account to use the API.

1. Create a free account (or log in)

2. Go to Settings

3. Copy your API Key — it looks like a long random string

Step 2 — Download ShareX

If you don't have ShareX yet, download it free from getsharex.com

ShareX is a free, open-source screenshot and screen recording tool for Windows. It supports custom upload destinations, which is how we connect it to IMGBS.

Step 3 — Add IMGBS as a custom uploader

In ShareX:

1. Go to Destinations → Custom uploader settings

2. Click New to create a new uploader

3. Fill in these settings:

Name: IMGBS

Destination type: Image uploader

Method: POST

Request URL: https://imgbs.com/api/sharex.php

Body: Form data (multipart/form-data)

File form name: image

Headers:

X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY_HERE

URL: {json:url}

Deletion URL: {json:delete_url}

Step 4 — Set as default uploader

1. In ShareX, go to Destinations → Image uploader

2. Select Custom image uploader

Now every time you take a screenshot with ShareX, it automatically uploads to IMGBS and copies the link to your clipboard.

Quick import — .sxcu config file

Instead of manual setup, you can import this config directly into ShareX. Copy the JSON below, save it as imgbs.sxcu, and double-click the file to import it. Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your actual key.

Optional settings

You can add these as additional form fields in ShareX under Arguments:

title — custom title for the image

visibility — public, unlisted, or private

tags — comma-separated tags

album_id — upload directly to an album

expire_hours — auto-delete after this many hours

Test it

Press Print Screen (or your ShareX hotkey) to take a screenshot. ShareX will upload it to IMGBS and copy the direct image link to your clipboard. Paste it anywhere to share.

If something isn't working, check that your API key is correct in the header and that the Request URL matches exactly.
